Roaring River, Westmoreland – Mission Recap

HerRelief Jamaica Community Medical Outreach in Roaring River, Westmoreland

HerRelief Jamaica carried out a one-day medical outreach in Roaring River on May 30, 2026, providing primary healthcare services to residents in a community where access to routine medical care remains limited seven months after Hurricane Melissa caused extensive disruption across western Jamaica.

The outreach was led by our all-female team of Jamaican-born healthcare professionals and diaspora-based medical practitioners working alongside local support personnel to deliver consultations, screenings, and basic medical care within the community.

The medical team included Co-Founder and President Theresa White, Co-Founder and Vice President Dr. Kerone Thomas, Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Nekeisha Walker, Director of Community Outreach, Dr. Yeneisha Greene, and volunteer Nurse Nekisha Cooper.

A local family made their property available for use as a temporary clinic, allowing the medical team to establish a service site within walking distance for residents who would otherwise require transportation to access care.

On arrival, patients were processed through clinical stations offering general medical consultations, blood pressure and blood glucose screening, chronic disease review, medication assessment, mental health screening, and health education. Individuals requiring further management were identified and referred for continued care.

In addition to clinical services, the outreach included the distribution of more than 100 care packages containing clothing, footwear, hygiene products, toys, blankets, and essential household items. The team also provided tents, flashlights, portable stoves, and other basic supplies to support households with immediate needs.

During the outreach, Dr. Thomas, Co-Founder and Vice President of HerRelief Jamaica, conducted a home visit for a patient unable to attend the clinic due to complications related to heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes. The visit included a clinical assessment, medication review, and caregiver guidance on ongoing treatment requirements.

Dr. Thomas noted that in-home consultations remain necessary in cases where mobility or medical complexity prevents patients from accessing clinic-based services.

HerRelief Jamaica said the outreach forms part of its ongoing schedule of community-based medical services across Jamaica, with a focus on areas where access to primary healthcare remains constrained.

Each outreach is dependent on the availability of medical supplies, logistical support, and volunteer personnel. HerRelief Jamaica continues to welcome collaboration from healthcare professionals, donors, and partner organisations to expand the number of communities it can reach and the volume of patients it can serve.
